Facelift
The effects of daily stresses such as age, sun exposure, and changes in weight transform the appearance of our patients as they grow older. As creases and folds begin to form on the face, many patients seek cosmetic treatments that can make them look as young as they feel. At The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester, facelift surgery, technically called rhytidectomy, can help you “set back the clock.”
In a facelift procedure, your plastic surgeon removes any excess fat from your facial area, tightens the muscles, and re-drapes the skin over your face and neck. When patients undergo the facelift procedure at our surgical facilities in Rochester it results in a much younger-looking appearance. A facelift can be performed in combination with other cosmetic treatments such as eyelid surgery, brow lift, or rhinoplasty.
Facelift Surgery
Your surgeon will usually begin the facelift procedure with incisions just above the hairline. These incisions extend down and in front of your ear, around, and back behind the earlobe. If your neck is also in need of tightening or contouring, your facelift surgeon will perform the appropriate procedure at the same time.
After separating the skin from underlying muscle and fat, the facelift surgeon may trim or otherwise sculpt the fat deposits around your neck and chin to achieve the optimal facial contour. Facial muscles and membranes are then tightened, and the skin is redraped over your face. Your surgeon then trims off the excess skin, and closes the incisions with stitches.
Within a few weeks of your operation at our Rochester surgical center, your facelift will leave your face much smoother and younger-looking.

At The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester, rhinoplasty surgery is used to alter the size and shape of a patient’s nose. Our surgeons in Rochester can perform rhinoplasty to reduce or increase the size of your nose, to alter the shape of the bridge or the tip, reduce the width of your nostrils, or correct the way your nose is positioned. Rhinoplasty can also be used correct a birth defect or injury to the nose, and to help relieve nose-related problems with breathing.
Rhinoplasty Surgery
At our facilities in Rochester, rhinoplasty surgery usually takes an hour or two, though more complicated operations may take more time. First, the skin is separated from the cartilage and bone that make up the structure of the nose. Your physician at the Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester may perform rhinoplasty from inside the nose, with the incisions located inside the nostrils. Your plastic surgeon may, on the other hand, prefer to perform rhinoplasty as an “open” procedure. “Open” rhinoplasty is often used in more complicated cases.
After making the incisions, your rhinoplasty surgeon sculpts the underlying structure of your nose into the desired shape. The type of sculpting performed will depend on the decisions you and your surgeon have made concerning what your new nose should look like. At the end of the rhinoplasty procedure, your plastic surgeon pulls the skin back down over the newly-sculpted nose structure, and seals all incisions with stitches. Dressings and splints will usually be off by the end of the first week after the rhinoplasty surgery.

Brow lift surgery is used to lift the sagging eyebrows that appear as you age, and which give you a tired, sad, or angry look. This surgical procedure gives a more youthful look to the area above your eyes.
Brow lift surgery raises the eyebrows to their normal, youthful appearance. This will also lift some of the excess skin on the upper lid that causes a tired look. At The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester, we use minimally invasive techniques to perform an endoscopic brow lift.
For children and teenagers, prominent ears can be a source of self-consciousness and even teasing. Ear surgery, or otoplasty, can help reduce the size of large ears and set ears back closer to the head. By age eight, a child’s ears are almost fully grown, so ear surgery is usually performed on children between the ages of eight and 14. Ear surgery may also be performed on adults without any added risks.
The Otoplasty Procedure
An otoplasty operation usually takes between one to two hours to perform, though it may take longer if the procedure is exceptionally complicated. The method used to perform the ear surgery will depend on the specifics of the problem.
One of most common methods of ear surgery involves making a small incision in the back of the ear, exposing the cartilage. Your surgeon then shapes the cartilage, removing small amounts and bending the ears back toward the patient’s head. If necessary, the cartilage may be held in place with non-removable stitches. It may also be necessary to remove a larger amount of cartilage to keep the fold as natural-looking as possible.
In a different though related technique, the surgeon makes an incision in the back of the ear and removes skin, using stitches to hold together folded cartilage. In this method, it is not necessary to remove any cartilage from the ear.
Ear surgery leaves a scar behind the ear. Scars are generally minor and inconspicuous, and fade with time.
As you age, your eyelids, both upper and lower, tend to sag, creating bags beneath your eyes and drooping upper lids. The physicians at The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester perform eyelid surgery, known medically as blepharoplasty, to remove excess fat and skin from your eyelids. Drooping lids and puffy bags beneath your eyes can make your face look older and more tired, and may possibly even cause problems with vision. Eyelid surgery has no effect on facial wrinkles such as crow’s feet, dark circles beneath your eyes, or drooping sagging eyebrows. If you would like to treat these problems as well, our surgeons can perform your eyelid surgery in conjunction with operations such as a facelift or brow lift or nonsurgical treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and collagen.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery can take anywhere from one to two hours to perform, depending on how extensive your procedures is. If your surgeon is performing the procedure on all four of your eyelids, the surgeon will probably work first on the upper eyelids, then on the lower ones.
In the most common eyelid surgery procedure, your surgeon places the incisions inside the creases of your upper lids, and in your lower eyelids just below the lashes. The surgeon then works through the incisions, separating the skin from the muscle and fatty tissue beneath it. Excess fat is removed, and slack muscles and sagging skin are tightened. Finally, small sutures are used to close all the incisions.
At our office in Rochester, the breast implants we use during the breast augmentation procedure are silicone shells filled with a salt-water solution known as saline. Our breast enhancement patients in Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse occasionally request breast augmentation using breast implants filled with silicone, but they are not approved by the FDA for public use.
Our Rochester breast enlargement surgeons take a variety of factors into account when planning a breast augmentation procedure. We will make every effort to keep the resulting scars as inconspicuous as possible, taking into account your personal anatomy to determine the least visible location for breast implants. Most incisions for breast augmentation are made in the inframammary fold.
The breast augmentation surgeon will work through the incision to lift your breast tissue and skin, creating a space beneath your pectoral (chest) muscle. By placing an implant under each breast, our breast enhancement surgeons can enhance your bust contour by one or more cup sizes. If your breasts are sagging, your doctor may recommend a breast lift in addition to breast augmentation surgery.
At our facilities serving Syracuse, Buffalo, and Rochester, breast augmentation surgery with breast implants usually takes one and a half hours. When the operation is complete, the incisions are closed with absorbable stitches placed below the skin. If you are in the area around Syracuse, Buffalo, and Rochester, and are considering breast enhancement using breast implants, contact The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester today.
At The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester, breast lift techniques vary, but in our most common mastopexy procedure, we make an anchor-shaped or vertical limited incision that follows your breast’s natural contour, outlining the area of skin that will be removed and defining the location where the nipple will be repositioned. We then remove the excess skin during the breast lift procedure, and move the nipple and areola to the higher position. Finally, we bring the skin surrounding the areola down and together to reshape the breast, and close the incisions with stitches.
Exceptionally large breasts can cause a variety of problems, both medical and personal. The weight of overly large breasts can cause back, shoulder and neck pain, skin irritation, and even skeletal deformities. Bra straps may leave deep impressions in a woman’s shoulders. Unusually large breasts may also cause a woman or teenage girl to feel uneasy and self-conscious.
Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, can help women who are troubled by large breasts. Breast reduction surgery removes glandular tissue, skin, and fat from breasts. It can make them smaller, lighter, and firmer. The goal of breast reduction is to bring a woman’s breasts into better proportion with the rest of her body.
When you’ve been spending time out on the water of Lake Ontario, you’ve probably heard a less than flattering description of a man’s larger than normal breasts, “man boobs.” Most people don’t give much thought to male breasts, unless you’re the person with enlarged male breasts. Then you’re most likely trying to cover up and keep them under wraps.
Unfortunately, common beliefs incorrectly assume that large male breasts are simply the result of weight gain, similar to the way a woman’s breasts often grow with some added pounds. This can be true with men, but enlarged breasts can also be a condition called gynecomastia, colloquially known as male breast enlargement.
The team at The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester can perform male breast reduction surgery and give you back your self-confidence again.
Our physicians serving the Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse area perform breast enlargement with breast implants, medically known as augmentation mammoplasty, for a number of reasons:
Breast enlargement can enhance breast size for women who feel their breast size is too small.
After a pregnancy, breast size and firmness can decrease. Breast augmentation with implants can correct this.
If one breast is smaller than the other, breast implants and/or breast reduction can correct the difference.
Breast augmentation can be used to reconstruct a breast following surgery such as a mastectomy.

We perform various body contouring treatments at The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a popular procedure for patients who have lost weight, but the excess skin remains.
With this procedure, our Rochester Plastic Surgeons remove excess skin and deposits of fat. In some cases, our plastic surgeons may tighten the muscle in your abdominal area, slimming your waistline and greatly reducing the appearance of a protruding abdomen.
Loose and excess skin can occur in many areas where large deposits of fat have disappeared. These areas include the area around the abdomen, the thighs, the neck, and under the arms. In addition to the cosmetic benefits for our patients in Rochester, a body lift can also be beneficial in terms of health. Rashes, infections, and difficulty in exercising can all result from the loose folds of skin that occur after drastic weight loss. A body lift alleviates these problems as well.

Laser Treatment uses pulses of laser light to seal off veins and cause them to dissolve, achieving the same result as sclerotherapy. Laser treatments are effective mainly for smaller spider veins.

There is no formula for determining whether a scar will be severe or mild, or how well a scar will respond to treatment. Many factors affect the way a scar develops, including the type of wound, its direction, the supply of blood to the area, the thickness and color of your skin, and the particulars of how the wound heals.
While no scar can be removed completely, our Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse area plastic surgeons can make a scar less noticeable using a variety of techniques. There are many different types of scars, and different treatments, from steroid medications to surgical procedures, that can be highly effective.
Every year, more than 500,000 new cases of skin cancer are reported in the United States. It is the most frequently diagnosed form of cancer, and the numbers are increasing. Skin cancers take many different forms, but generally they appear as growths and discoloration on the skin, most often the skin of the face, head, and neck.
Our Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse area plastic surgeon team have the medical training necessary to properly diagnose the various kinds of skin cancer growths, and can surgically remove the growth while maintaining a high level of function and a pleasing appearance, particularly important when the cancer is on the face or another highly visible spot. Most removals are performed in the physician’s office with local anesthetic.
Age spots are dark areas that appear on the skin as a result of sun exposure. The spots are typically very small and may resemble freckles. Anyone can develop age spots, but the condition most often occurs in men and women who are 50 or older.
Age spots, or sun spots, can be removed through laser treatments. Laser treatments for age spot or sun spot removal are most effective when combined with topical bleaching agents to ensure lasting results.
At our offices in Rochester, also serving Buffalo and Syracuse, laser hair removal is used to remove unwanted hair from multiple areas of the face and body.

Common areas treated on the face include:
upper lip
chin
cheeks
Common areas treated on the body include:

Laser skin tightening works by creating a beam of high-intensity light that delivers a controlled amount of heat to the treatment area. Treatments last from just a few minutes up to an hour. The time of treatment is dependent on the area being treated. This series of treatments results in collagen deposition over time. Skin tightening is available for the face, neck and décolletage. The treatment feels much like the snapping of a small rubber band. Most patients feel very little discomfort.
Laser skin tightening is recommended for signs of aging that are caused by sagging skin, such as wrinkles and folds.
