Coldwater Animal Hospital has been committed to the health and well-being of our patients since 1989. We are here to treat the dogs and cats of Rochester, NY, and surrounding areas 6 days a week. We are a Fear-Free and Cat Friendly Practices® certified veterinary hospital. Our services include wellness care, sick appointments, vaccinations, microchipping, allergy and dermatology testing, diagnostic care including an in-house laboratory, x-ray, and ultrasound, surgical care including spay and neuter, ACL reconstruction, TPLO surgery, pet dental, laser therapy, and more!   • Dr. Klovstad

    DVM

    Dr. Klovstad is our newest associate veterinary at Coldwater animal hospital. He is originally from Minneapolis Minnesota and graduated with his veterinary degree from St. Georges University in 2012. With a strong interest in surgery he has continued since graduation with extensive additional training in surgery across the country including a research and teaching fellowship in surgery at the University of Missouri. He lives with his two cats Penny and Sheldon and his Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retriever Vixen. When he is not at work he enjoys cooking, hiking with his dog and many other outdoor activities and Scuba diving.

  • Dr. Psutka

    DVM

    Dr. Psutka is the newest Associate Veterinarian at Coldwater Animal Hospital! Dr. Psutka received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 from St. George’s University and also completed her clinical training at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Psutka also completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the University of Illinois and her areas of professional interest include dentistry and soft tissue surgery. As a lifelong lover of animals and science and medicine, Dr. Psutka knew she wanted to be a veterinarian so she could help animals and their families. Her favorite part about working in the veterinary field is improving the quality of life in her patients and supporting human and animal bonding. Dr. Psutka is originally from Ontario, Canada but now resides in Rochester, New York with her husband, Dr. James Klovstad, and their three cats named Sheldon, Penny, and Jango Katt, and their Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever, Vixen. Dr. Psutka and Vixen even train and compete in agility together! In her free time, Dr. Psutka loves being outdoors, hiking, the beach, cooking and baking, watching movies, and musical theatre. A fun fact about Dr. Psutka is that she loves all things scary and spooky and she wishes it was Halloween all year long!

  • Dr. Mafalda Carvalho

    DVM

    Dr. Mafalda Carvalho is a new veterinarian with Coldwater Animal Hospital. Dr. Carvalho received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Lisbon University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She has a professional interest in preventive care and internal medicine. Dr. Carvalho started caring for stray dogs and cats that roamed her hometown streets when she was just a child. Dr. Carvalho cherishes fostering the bond of affection parents create with their pets and works daily to provide the care they need to live longer, healthier, and happier lives. Dr. Carvalho was born in Portugal and moved to New York State recently. She shares her household with her teenage daughter Liliana and 2 dogs named Nina and Moro. Nina and Moro love to splash in any water they come across, but they have not tried icy water yet! During her free time, you can find Dr. Carvalho hiking with her dogs or rowing the Erie canal. Dr. Carvalho happily joined the Rochester Boat Club where the passion for rowing and teamwork blend together wonderfully!

  • Allison Cooperman

    DVM

    Dr. Allison Cooperman is a new veterinarian with Coldwater Animal Hospital, but not new to the veterinary profession. Dr. Cooperman entered veterinary medicine as a second career, having received her Master of Public Health degree in 1998 and working in NYC for 13 years before beginning vet school. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. She has a professional interest in client education, preventive care, and internal medicine. Dr. Cooperman is originally from downstate NY, growing up on Long Island for 18 years and then living in NYC for another 15 years. After vet school, she settled in Rochester with her husband Paul, who is a born and bred Rochesterian. They have an 11-year-old son, Russell, 2 chihuahua mixes named Ernesto and Esmeralda, and a sassy old cat named Luna. During her free time, you can find Dr. Cooperman spending time with her family, snuggling with her pets, and cooking vegetarian cuisine.
